D.I.Y. How to build a Vert wall
- Sam Dowley takes us through the steps of building your own Vert wall.

We've put together an easy step by step way to building your very own Vert wall.
It's easy..... just follow these simple diagrams and instructions and you'll be on your way to riding a vert wall soon enough.

Materials
•    One sheet of form ply (approx 2400mm by 1200mm)
•    Enough pallet planks to cover the ramp (you may have to work this out as you go).
•    One piece of timber approximately 100mm longer than the width of the form ply.
•    Enough Ply or MDF to cover the ramp.
•    Screws around two inches long.
•    One nail (more if you’re not too flash at hammering).

Tools
•    Power or cordless drill and a drill bit slightly smaller than a pencil.
•    Hammer
•    Jigsaw

Directions
•    Measure the short side of the form ply.  On a piece of timber draw two dots the width of the form ply apart; there should be at least 30mm of timber beyond each mark.  Drive a nail through the marks so that it sticks out about a centimeter from the other side.  Drill a hole through the other mark and work the pencil through, so that it sticks out the same amount as the nail (fig 1).
(Note this can be done with a piece of string but I’ve found that it tends to stretch so it’s not as accurate).
•    Tap the nail into the top right corner of your sheet of ply, try and get it as close to the edge as possible (fig 3).  If you’ve done everything right the pencil should line up with the bottom corner and you can draw your first curve (fig 2).  Fix the nail in the other locations I’ve shown on the diagram and mark the rest of the curves.
•    Cut the curves out with a jigsaw. You will get four from a single sheet of form ply (fig 4).
•    Because the pallet timbers alternate, where the two sheets of plywood meet there will be an unsupported section. You can solve this by finding two pallet planks that are wider than the others you’re using.  Cut a check out of the corners so that it slots into the others pallet planks (fig 5 & 6).
•    Screw the pallet timbers on in an alternating pattern as shown in the diagram (fig 5 & 6).
•    Fix the ply down with screws starting from the centre of the sheet and working outwards, this will prevent the sheet from buckling (fig 7). You want gaps of about 250mm between each screw as you work across each sheet.
All done!
